Child abuse solicitor, Peter Garsden of law firm Abney Garsden solicitors based in Cheadle Hulme, picked up the Solicitor of the year award at last night’s Law Society Excellence Awards held in London.
Abney Garsden who are celebrating their 30th anniversary specialise in family law, wills & probate and abuse. It was the firm’s work with child abuse victims that led to Peter Garsden winning Solicitor of the Year.
Peter leads a team of some of the most highly respected child abuse lawyers in the country. His firm has won a number of awards for the care and empathy they show their clients and in addition he has devoted the last 20 years of his career to support clients and undertakes pro bono work supporting many charities.
The Solicitor of the Year award was designed to recognise an ‘outstanding contribution made by a solicitor in private practice’. The winner is someone in a legal practice who is seen by colleagues as going ‘that extra mile’.
Receiving his award Peter Garsden said: “It is a cliché to say I was humbled to have been awarded Solicitor of the Year award by the Law Society because I am delighted. It is a recognition of 20 years very hard work fighting for the rights of abuse victims and survivors are the real heroes of the struggle, as well as, of course, my loyal and hardworking team who deserve equal credit for helping me fight so many battles over the years. Time for a well-deserved celebration!”
